Trust indicators

Every colour on your Digital Skill ID, explained.

No hidden algorithms. No black-box scoring. Every dot, ring, pill and badge below is defined once, publicly, and never changes meaning. If it's green, you know exactly why. If it's gold, same. Every rule a user, recruiter or regulator can audit in under five minutes.

Version: 1.0 Last updated: 23 October 2026

1. The gold ring — Verification Score

The gold ring around your Digital Skill ID's centre shows your Verification Score. It is a transparent percentage, nothing more:

Verification % = (skills with ≥1 external confirmation) ÷ (total skills on your DSI) × 100

If you have ten skills on your card and seven of them are confirmed by an outside source (your former employer, a course provider, etc.), your Verification Score is 70%. The ring fills proportionally and the centre shows the number.

What makes the score go up?

  • Getting a former employer to confirm a skill via our Workplace magic-link flow
  • Linking a course certificate from Coursera, Udemy, Credly or any Open Badges issuer
  • Having a course or education platform directly issue a credential into your DSI

What does NOT raise the score?

  • Signing in with BankID, Google or LinkedIn (that verifies you, not the skill)
  • Uploading a CV with lots of skills on it (AI can read the words, but reading isn't verifying)
  • Typing skills in manually (self-declared, honest, but not externally confirmed)

Why this way? A plain ratio is explainable to a seven-year-old, carries zero EU AI Act Art. 22 exposure (no automated profiling), zero GDPR Art. 22 risk (no decision-making), and can't be gamed by having AI parse a longer CV. The only path up is real external confirmation.

Edge cases

  • Zero skills on DSI — ring shows "—" and the label reads "Add skills"
  • One skill, verified — technically 100% but shown with a small asterisk; the score becomes meaningful at 5+ skills
  • Verification revoked (ex-employer later disputes) — percentage recalculates in real time; score goes down

2. The skill dots — Trust layers

Each skill on your Digital Skill ID carries a tiny coloured dot showing where its highest-trust confirmation comes from. Scan the dots and you know, at a glance, how a skill was proven.

DotLayerConfirmed byExample
Green Identity BankID / Google / LinkedIn / GitHub / Apple Not attached to individual skills — identifies you, the person. Shown separately as a header badge.
Blue Workplace Former employer, via magic-link email "Figma — confirmed by Spotify, Nov 2026". Highest trust for a specific skill.
Amber Skill / Course Coursera, Udemy, Credly, Open Badges issuer "User Research — confirmed by Coursera, Mar 2024"
Purple AI parsed Our AI extracted the skill from a CV you uploaded "Mobile Design — extracted from your CV upload". Honest about where it came from.
Grey Self-declared You typed it yourself "Figma plugins — self-declared"

Rule: each skill shows its highest-trust dot. If one skill is both workplace-verified AND course-verified, it shows the blue (workplace) dot — but all its confirmations are listed in the detail view when you tap it.

3. Identity verification badges

Identity badges confirm who you are, not what you can do. They appear on your DSI header, not next to individual skills. Multiple can be active at once.

BadgeProvided byWhat it proves
✉️ Email verified Our verification OTP You control the email address you signed up with.
🟢 Google verified Google Sign-In (OAuth) You own a Google account at your email.
⚫ Apple verified Sign in with Apple You own an Apple ID. (May be relayed via privaterelay.appleid.com if you chose "Hide My Email" — still valid.)
⬛ GitHub verified GitHub OAuth You own a GitHub account. Useful for developer DSIs — it also lets us surface your top languages later with your consent.

4. Apply type indicators

When Justneed shows you a job match, the apply button has a colour, label and icon telling you how fast you can apply. We never hide this — you always know what you're about to do before you tap.

LabelWhat tapping doesWhy this label
⚡ Instant We send your application to the employer with one tap — either via email (JobTech ads with a listed email) or via the employer's native apply API. You review the auto-drafted cover letter first, then confirm. No form-filling. Fastest route to the hiring manager. Shown in gold = our priority recommendation.
🪄 Assisted Opens the employer's apply form in an in-app browser and auto-fills every field we can from your Digital Skill ID. You review, maybe tweak a line, submit. Form filling exists but is handled for you. Shown in indigo = standard experience.
🔗 External Opens the employer's apply flow in your system browser. You apply manually on their site. We track that you went, so your DSI history is complete. Site needs login, CAPTCHA, or has anti-bot protection we respect. Shown outlined = you'll do the work yourself.

Why these three and not just one apply button? Every job's apply experience is different. Hiding that under one friendly button sets false expectations and burns trust the first time a tap sends you to a 20-field form. We tell you the shape of the next step before you tap. Instant jobs are ranked first by default.

5. Match score colours

Every job in your feed shows a Match score — how well your Digital Skill ID matches that role's required skills. The number comes from a straightforward count: skills you have that are listed in the job's requirements, divided by total requirements.

ScoreColourMeaning
80 – 100%GreenStrong match — most required skills already confirmed on your DSI
60 – 79%GoldGood match with a couple of gaps you could close with upskilling or self-declare
40 – 59%Amber-brownPartial fit — worth exploring, maybe worth the stretch application
Under 40%GreyWeak match — shown lower, mostly hidden by default

Every match score is explainable. Tap a score to see exactly which required skills matched (and from which trust layer) and which didn't. No proprietary ranking, no hidden weights.

6. What "unverified" looks like

We don't hide the gaps. Skills that haven't been externally confirmed are shown with:

  • A grey or purple dot (self-declared or AI-parsed) — not green, not blue, not amber
  • A dotted outline on the skill pill, instead of a solid one
  • Faint italic in the detail view: Not yet confirmed

This is deliberate. If a recruiter looks at your DSI and sees mostly grey/purple dots, they know they're reading self-reported claims — the same signal strength as a traditional CV. The moment you confirm skills with former employers or course providers, those dots turn blue or amber. The upgrade is visible.

7. Our rules for ourselves

  1. Every number has a formula. Verification %, Match score, apply counts — all transparent, all auditable, all explainable in one sentence.
  2. Every colour has a definition. This page is the single source of truth. If a UI uses a colour we haven't defined, it's a bug.
  3. No "AI confidence" or "fit score" without reasons. If a decision is made by a system, you see the inputs that made it. EU AI Act Art. 22 compliance by design.
  4. No gamification tricks. We never nudge you with artificial scores to drive engagement. The scores exist because recruiters need them and candidates deserve to see them.
  5. We publish the formula, not just the output. Any user, lawyer, journalist or regulator can replicate the maths in a spreadsheet.

8. Questions, corrections, or something unclear?

If a colour, badge or score on your Digital Skill ID is behaving in a way you don't understand, that's our fault — tell us.
